Focus Groups: User workshops

A focus group is used to gather requirements about your target market's attitudes, beliefs and desires.
Specifically we gather:

  • feedback on users preferences,
  • product impressions,
  • expected interactions,
  • strategies for use, and
  • context of use.

It can also be used to gather reactions to ideas or prototypes.

A focus group for technology user research is a discussion led by a moderator who follows a plan that has questions, prompts, tasks and exercises for the group. It has the specific intetnion to find out what people do, why they do it and how they think they would do it online.

8-12 people are recruited per focus group and a typical focus group lasts for 2 hours.
